The early years of my childhood was spent growing up in Holland {Although sadly I no longer speak Dutch but I am fluent in Cantonese – just to be confusing!}
I will always remember the days spent in the countryside surrounded by trees and the huge windmills. Although Amsterdam was an area we as a family visited on a weekly basis, the countryside is where I always remember fondly. It was always quiet and calm. The weather always seemed beautiful despite the winter months being very much the same as here in the UK. We had a lot of space to freely roam around as children at home and at school. So as the memories came flooding back, I began feeling inspired for my next Design-a-Board…
The Country Lanes of Holland.
This Design-a-Board inspiration began with the Delft blue and white ceramic I have in my office. It is one of the kissing boy and girl my mum bought me on one of her recent trips back to visit friends. This design is influenced by the blue and white but as it’s the countryside I remember mostly, I wanted it to have a slight rustic feel. Everything I added to the design are the things I remember of Holland. The beautifully made clogs, blocks of cheese being sold on the streets in Amsterdam, the bicycles that seemed so huge to me as a child and of course the gorgeous tulips! I wanted to create something a little warmer so added a touch of vintage pink for a pretty feminine touch.
After putting together this design, it’s made me want to re-visit all the places I remember from my childhood. Maybe I should before I hit 30! … Carms x
